Road Bikes

Best suited for pavement, road bikes are available in various designs for different uses including fitness riding, commuting, long distance riding, touring, racing, and family outings. The racing bikes have drop-bar handlebars that provide a more aerodynamic riding position that is more efficient at transferring the rider’s energy into forward motion. The other handlebar style is the flat-bar that provides a more upright riding position and doesn’t put as much strain on the rider’s back.

Mountain Bikes

Designed for off-road riding and riding on unpaved roads, mountain bikes with the correct tires can also be ridden on pavement. However, the smaller diameter wheels means that they're less efficient on the pavement than a road bike. They have stronger frames, better braking systems, shock absorbing suspension, and lower gears so that they can handle the rough riding encountered in the mountains.

Trikke

Even though the Trikke is a not a bike but a “tricycle”, we are featuring it here because of its novel method of riding. You ride it in a standing position and propel it without using any pedals. Thanks to simple physics, the motion of the rider’s body creates the forward movement, while providing a great physical workout. Suitable for all ages and skill levels, a rider may reach speeds of up to 18 mph on flat ground, ride 50 miles in one day, and with practice climb steep hills.

The Trikke

Triathlon cycling resembles individual time trial racing more than it does other types of road racing. With the exception of World Cup and Olympic races, drafting is not allowed.

The geometry of the bike is specialized, including a steeper seat tube angle that helps to spare the rider’s muscle groups needed for running and also improves aerodynamics. Other aerodynamic improvements include special handlebars and aerodynamic wheels.
